Poke (pronounced poh-keh) meaning “to cut or slice” originated in Hawaii centuries ago. It is Hawaii’s favorite food because of its healthy ingredients, delicious flavors and uniqueness. Tagged the “next generation of sushi”, poke does include many similarities to its sushi counterpart however unlike sushi, poke is served in a bowl which makes it easier to be consumed with a spoon or fork and less fumbling with chopsticks. It’s all in the sauce! The sauce is what sets poke apart from the pack. A number of sauce variations have been created to serve as marinade for poke. Common sauces include ponzu sauce, teriyaki sauce, ginger-soy sauce and spicy mayo. If you can’t choose just one, mix em!
